Water Consumption and Weight Loss
By Michelle | November 2, 2009
Not everyone knows it, but drinking water and weight loss are closely related, especially if you want to lose 10 pounds fast. We need water to survive and it is vital to our health. You can live for weeks with no food, but only days with no water. You can live for a lot longer with no food than you can with no water. Water and weight loss are interdependent.
Water and weight loss are closely related, so anyone trying to lose weight needs to be conscious of their water consumption. Water helps us to maintain proper body temperature. Keeping your body well hydrated will prevent dehydration. Water is vital to body temperature maintenance and of course, if you dont get enough water, dehydration will result.
Dehydration can damage nearly every organ, disrupt electrolyte balance and even cause you to go into shock, amongst other harmful effects. Replacing lost fluids as soon as possible is vitally important when dehydration occurs.
This is usually done through the combined efforts of IV fluids and frequent small amounts of water orally.
A common question is, “how much water should I drink per day?” This is always taught by the medical profession that the suggested amount is eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day.
It is thought that water does speed up metabolism by approximately 30 per cent so in drinking water we can expect it to play a part in our overall weight loss.
It is best, if possible, to drink the suggested amounts of water to flush waste out of our bodies and keep it hydrated. Drinking a glass of water approximately 10 to 15 minutes before each meal with a glass in between each meal will be beneficial in our weight loss attempts.
There’s no time like the present to make sure you’re hydrated. Get up and go drink one glass of water. You’ll start to notice the difference right away. Remember how you were feeling like a snack only a few minutes ago? How about now? Chances are it seems less important than it did then. Best of all, that snack you might have had could contain hundreds of calories, while that glass of water you had instead had zero!
Upon arising each day drink a glass of water. Some people prefer spring water or filtered water. Water is very refreshing and your body desires it although you might not think so. Before each meal drink a glass of water. About an hour after your meal drink another glass and repeat this pattern. Keep track of the glasses of water that you are consuming each day if you have trouble remembering. Before you know it you will have consumed the suggested 64 ounces of water without even realizing it. Keep a diary of your weight loss now that you have taken the steps to hydrate your body with the water and you will see that water and weight loss is effective in accomplishing your goals.
