Using the Acne Diet to Clear Up Breakouts

By Michelle | November 8, 2009

An acne diet is certainly an appealing idea. After all, who has not heard the saying that chocolate gives you pimples? We almost all have. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.

However, an acne diet can be hard to create for a large number of people. Its very personal because it has to be based on an individuals responses to food. There are guidelines, but each individual’s progress will mostly be trial and error. Check your skin thoroughly every day. Keep a journal. You might even want to take pictures using a digital camera once or twice a week. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.

Here are a few instructions to help get you started on an acne diet:

* Take in a lot more protein - Many dermatologists think that protein intake is related to clear skin. Oil production is limited from an enzyme located within protein. If you have oily skin, you know that it is very vulnerable to breakouts.

* 2. Avoid carbohydrates - Its not necessary to cut out all carbohydrates. But you should keep them limited to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates have compounds in them that can stimulate oil production. This is why so many people think that junk food causes acne. But actually junk food just is pretty high in carbs.

* Consume green tea - Real green tea is the best, try to drink it The best type of green tea is the kind you brew at home. You really may not like the real green tea so the natural green tea drinks will work Green tea holds back androgen production. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.

* Try to limit the amount of salt you intake - Salt usually contains iodine. This is the reason we usually call table salt “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.

It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. You already know what is in your beauty products if you have acne. You should only use moisturizers without oil and natural and organic skin care products. These are least likely to cause a breakout. You might want to start buying mineral makeup, that is if you wear makeup. By using mineral makeup you may actually ease acne problems and increase the results of your acne diet.
