How Couples can Design a Healthy Eating Plan

By Michelle | November 13, 2009

Evaluate Your Lifestyle

Firstly, when implementing a healthy eating plan, is to carry out a diet assessment . You most likely have some bad eating habits and they must be weeded out if a plan is to be successful. Looking at the contents of your current food choices may be a surprise if you have never done it previously. Most people rarely examine their eating habits and continue to eat the same foods all of their lives. A critical look at your family lifestyle will reveal their true contribution to your health. The more details the better. Then use the information to talk with your family and start a plan of change.

Talk to your Partner

Discussing the need to create a healthy eating plan with your family will be crucial if you are to succeed. A family meeting is the best time to present the information that can come to light in the evaluation.Present to everyone what you discovered and then let everyone speak their mind. Obtaining an objective opinion can often help when it comes to evaluating ourselves. This is easily achieved if you can discuss with a partner or friend with the same goal in mind. It’s true that change will be difficult, but change will be easier if you have a plan to move forward. Brainstorming will allow you to think of the best healthy eating plan to suite everyone.

BrainStorm a Plan

A critical step in creating a healthy eating plan is picking out a focus point from which to move forward successfully. Do not try and change everything at once, but shoot for a 90 day window. Start by designing a daily diet planner and allow everyone to input to it. Learn about healthy food choices and plan a healthy diet. Develop a monthly diet planner and and focus in it. Don’t do everything yourself and share the responsibility of buying and preparing meals.

Prepare for Change

Once you have all the planning for a healthy eating plan complete you must take action. If your partner is less than crazy about the change in diet they will need a great deal of help. Because this is a family affair, take it steady and avoid impulsive decisions. Approaching change in small steps over a reasonable amount of time will make change less dramatic. Trying to take on too many changes all at once can lead to discouragement and possible set backs in your plan. Take it slow and steady to start with and avoid discouragement.

Get Excited about the Plan

It may be obvious at this point that one or both partners trying to change to a healthy eating plan will need support. Encouragement and eagerness will help to be convincing toward expressing the magnitude of the plan, to the kids. They will sense your passion and view this as acceptance to be enthusiastic also. Maybe the inches you will lose by eating healthier or being able to start training for that 3k you always wanted to complete, can create the excitement you need. Encouraging each other is a great help when tackling a healthy weight loss plan and it helps you to stay on track. Getting encouraged will allow you to focus on your plan and create a lifestyle change.
