Causes of Binge eating

As stated part of a healthy diet plan is getting educated on why people binge and how they can be helped to modify their behavior.  Understanding binging behavior is key if you are to successfully overcome its effects.  The connection with some foods or just consuming in general is at the focal point of binge eating.  Binge eating behavior is directly linked to states which create a particular experience or feeling. So as you might feel sad you eat; or if you feel stressed you again consume food.  Triggers associated with food will switch your emotional being to for the better.  Identifying which states are desirable and being connected with food, will help in changing this association to food and binging.

Be Self-Aware

In order to gain leverage over binging while on a healthy diet plan, you need to focus on your binging behavior.  Portion control and intake discipline are crucial for success.  Binge eating behavior necessitates that it be observed by keeping aware when you are doing it. Plus what is the purpose for doing it.  All three of these, before, during and after are imperative to understand. Binge eating is cyclical; need-fulfillment-remorse is the cycle.  Start to observe your behavior and be aware of the purpose that binging behavior carries within your life.

What are the Alternatives?

Getting Involved in a healthy diet plan is a useful constructive action but, make no mistake that binging is a destructive activity.  But as you know binging has an emotional payoff attached to it.  Discussing with a counselor to determine the cause of your stress and teasing out other alternatives is an excellent thing.  After you have identified your particular reward you can seek out alternative behaviors.  If your binging is reward based, then find alternatives, which don’t contain fatty food.  Decide on an activity you like to do and apply it to reward yourself.

Start with Small Steps

At the start beginning] of a healthy diet plan the reduction of binging will be hard.  This is necessary for a long term solution. Binging is no different.  Attempting to address too many issues all together may be to much more some.  Don’t wait until the binge eating triggers have increased in strength, it will be much more difficult to fight.  The moment you begin feeling a binge eating trigger go off, it is time to bring out your other behaviors. Don’t waste time as momentum increases, the harder it will be to avert.  Take a few deep breaths and remind yourself of the correct alternatives and do it.
