You need to develop goals as to why you want to workout, assess where you are now, and what plan of action will allow you to get to where you want to be. This will make your workouts more focused, and more effective.</p>

<p>You don’t want to be repeating your workouts from one session to the next. You need to move your attention from your areas of strength to your weaker points, which means doing workouts that really challenge you. Make sure that you are continually improving after each workout, either by doing just one more rep, or adding a little more weight to the exercise, or doing an extra minute of cardio. Whatever it is make sure you are improving on your previous workout. </p>
<p>Workout mistake 4: Training without intensity</p>
<p>Some people tend to just coast through a workout; using light weights in low reps, low intensity cardio, and overall low intensity workouts. In order to make significant gains you need to train with intensity and push yourself to improve in each workout. Rather than relying on a long, steady cardio workout, try training in high intensity intervals. And instead of doing higher rep ranges with lighter weights, do lower rep ranges with more weights. The harder you train, the quicker you will see results.</p>
<p>Workout mistake 5: Thinking you need to ‘feel the burn’</p>
<p>Some people think that to have an effective workout you need to feel that burn in your muscles. That burn is a result of lactic acid building up during the workout and may actually slow down muscle growth, not speed it up. It has nothing to do with muscle growth, and nothing to do with how hard you’re training. You can reduce lactic build-up by training in a rep range of 5-7 rather than higher rep ranges of 10 and above.</p>

Comparing yourself to others lowers your self-esteem and confidence, making you frustrated and unhappy. Focus on your own goals, and the results you want to see in yourself through each of your workouts. Compare yourself to yourself yesterday, or yourself during the previous workout, and make sure that you are improving on what and who you were before today. </p>
<p>Workout mistake 7: Making excuses for missing a workout</p>
<p>We all have excuses, and we’ve all used them, but excuses get us absolutely nowhere. We don’t gain anything from using our excuses, and we certainly don’t grow from them, physically and mentally. Drop the excuses. Some people don’t see results immediately so they stop trying, others say it’s too hot or too cold, and still most say they don’t have enough time. You need to accept total and absolute responsibility for your life. If you’re not seeing results find out why, maybe you need to train with more intensity, maybe you’re not eating properly; find out why, and rectify the situation. If you feel you don’t have enough time to workout, decide to manage your time so that only activities that are essential to you consume your time, and taking care of your body is as essential as it gets. If you want to workout in the morning get out of bed an hour earlier, which means you go to sleep an hour earlier. Take responsibility for all of your actions and create the masterpiece of your life.</p>
<p>The first step to rectifying any mistake in your training is identifying the mistake. Identify exactly what you’ve been doing incorrectly, learn from the mistake, and find out how you can correct the situation. The real mistake in training is knowing you’re making mistakes but doing nothing about it, and just repeating those same errors over and over again. Make significant progress in your training and you will be able to make significant progress in other areas of your life.</p>

<p>I bet you if you ever did another crunch it&#8217;ll be too soon. You don&#8217;t like getting down on your back because it bruises your spine and hurts your neck.  If it was only possible to stop doing crunches and get six pack abs, you certainly would.  It certainly would save a lot of time.  Well, truth be told, you&#8217;d be better off ditching the crunches because they aren&#8217;t very effective in getting you that you want. You need to adopt a crunch free workout routine.</p>
<p>When it comes to ab development, there are plenty of more effective exercises that you can use in your crunch free workout routine.  If crunches weren&#8217;t effective, you wouldn&#8217;t have to do them day after day like you read in the muscle magazines.</p>
<p>Just think about it.  You can stop lying down, hurting you spine, do those back and neck bruising exercises from the &#8217;80s and replace them with total body exercises for a crunch free workout routine for a more efficient, more effective routine for faster results.</p>
<p>Right now you are probably thinking, what&#8217;s wrong with crunches?  Why would someone tell me or write about doing then if they were harmful?  The answer is two-fold. The truth is that crunches are useless for getting six pack abs.  If fact, kinesiologists claim that when you are doing crunches, you are performing a motion that damages your lower back and spine.</p>
<p>When you perform a crunch, you subject your spine to flexion, a condition that compresses the disks in your spine.  Continue to do that and you will herniate your disks.  Have you cer heard of someone who bent over to pick something up and &#8220;threw&#8221; out their back.  Well, that&#8217;s the same motion that you use when you do a crunch!</p>
<p>If you use the proper total body exercises in your crunch free workout routine, you won&#8217;t need the gym, you&#8217;ll burn more fat, you&#8217;ll spend far less time than body builders do on their abs, and  yet you&#8217;ll be able to get those flat, sexy abs that you&#8217;ve always wanted by working out at home.</p>
<p>By adopting a crunch free workout routine, boring, steady-state cardio will become a thing of the past.  You will only have to workout three times a week and that workout will only take about 45 minutes.  Doesn&#8217;t it make sense to spend more time showing your abs than you do working on them?</p>
<p>Here are 2 exercises to use in your crunch free workout routine:</p>
<p>Cross-BodyMountainClimber</p>
<p>Get into push up position.<br />
Lift your right foot off the floor and bring your right knee toward your left elbow. Return to the starting position, and repeat with the opposite leg, bringing your left knee to your right elbow. Repeat until specified time or number of repetitions are completed.<br />
 Lateral Ski Jumps<br />
1. Stand beside object to jump over. (I use paint cans in my garage)</p>
<p>2. Bring knees up and jump over the object sideways.</p>
<p>3. Land on both feet and immediately jump back over the object to the starting point.</p>
<p>4. Do not to pause between jumps. Only go as fast as you can perform the exercise safely.</p>
<p>Repeat until specified time or number of repetitions are completed.</p>

<p>1) Hindu Squats 20<br />
2) Hindu Pushups 20<br />
3)  Lateral Ski Jumps 20<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Suspension trainers are all the rage these days, and why not. Being a strength and conditioning coach that conditions his high school athletes with bodyweight circuits, and being a bodyweight warrior myself, I decided to add some suspension training to my own routine to see if would be both beneficial and practical for my athletes. This is what I found.</p>
<p>With suspension trainers you have the great convenience of being able to take your gym with you in a bag or a suitcase. The suspension trainer allows you to get a good workout in the woods, in the park or in the garage, not to mention the versatility of being able to do a great number of exercises without having to change machines, change plates or even go to a gym. Though it&#8217;s not ideal for a group setting, individuals can complete an effective workout in a short period of time. Another plus is that the &#8220;instability&#8221; of being suspended during exercises incorporates a greater number of muscle fibers and requires more strength to complete any movement (i.e., dips vs. dips on gymnastic rings). Additionally, every exercise involves working the core.</p>
<p>The only major negative that I can see with using one of these devices is the cost. Right now a TRX suspension trainer costs $189.99, not including tax or shipping. That&#8217;s too expensive for me to buy them for my 80 athletes. That&#8217;s too much for me to ask their parents to buy them. Heck, that&#8217;s a lot for me to buy one for myself! So I asked myself, &#8220;What if I could make my own for cheap?&#8221; So I did. Here&#8217;s how I did it.</p>
<p>First I went to the local grocery store (Ralph&#8217;s here in Southern California) and bought 3 nylon dog leashes, 2 large and 1 medium. You&#8217;ll find that the pet industry usually makes dog leashes in different colors, according to size. The large leashes are usually black, and the mediums are usually red. This is good because your medium strap is going to be your attachment/adjustment strap and the red color will make it easy to distinguish from the other two. The nylon leashes are also very strong. In my nearly 50 years of life, I have never heard of a dog (or a person) breaking one without cutting it. A large leash should run you around $6, and a medium leash is about $5 at a grocery or drug store.</p>
<p>Next, I walked across the parking lot to the hardware store (Ace Hardware) and bought a 1/4&#8221; quicklink, a metal link with a cylinder on one side that can be twisted to open and close the link. It&#8217;s about 2&#8243; in length. The link costs about $2. This is going to be the attachment point of your three leashes. His particular link has a working load limit (WLL) of 880 lbs. That means that three of my friends and I (weighing 180 lbs. each) could hang from the suspension trainer with 160 lbs. to spare before the link would reach its load limit!</p>
<p>Now, here is the idiot proof assembly process. I know its idiot proof because I did it. First, take each of the long leashes and attach them to the quicklink with the clip you would use to attach to the dog collar, leaving the loop end free. These two loop ends are what you are going to grasp with your hands or where you will put your feet. Take the medium leash, unscrew the clasp of the quick link and put the loop end of the dog collar (the part you hold with your hand) and screw it closed.</p>
<p>The finishing touch is optional. I&#8217;m kind of wimpy. When I grab the loops they will tighten on my hands. I wear a wedding ring on my left hand and a service ring on my right hand so the tightening loops make it kind of uncomfortable with my fingers being squeezed against those hard rings. The solution was some handles. Get two 4&#8243; long pieces of 1&#8243;diameter PVC sprinkler pipe (price about $1). Cut through the wall of the pipe lengthwise so that you can slide the loop into each piece of pipe so that will have a handle for each loop. If you&#8217;re tougher than me, you won&#8217;t need them. It&#8217;s just an option.</p>
<p>Now you are ready to use your creation. It&#8217;s simple. Put the clip from small leash over a beam, tree branch or a swing set and clip it to the quicklink. Make sure the branch or beam will support your weight. Don&#8217;t worry about the suspension trainer because it definitely will support your weight. If you need a shorter length just wrap the adjustment strap around the beam an extra time or two to shorten the length. You can also tie the adjustment strap in a knot and shut it in a door.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve done it! I went high end with my components and spent $20. That&#8217;s $170 savings over TRX. I even have a video where Adam Steer goes to a 99-cent store and builds one for $10! Log on and watch him do it!</p>
<p>Your suspension trainer is virtually indestructible and allows you to take your gym in a bag where ever you go.</p>
